The last days of Ballyhoo...I mean, Babymoon

As I write this, I am already on my second adventure of the summer: trip to Israel. I plan to blog from here as well, but I would like to finish the report of the babymoon.

We left Berkeley with its tall trees, old style homes and lush gardens and headed down to Foster City. The drive was pretty nice as we crossed over the sparkling bay on the long San Mateo bridge to get to Sonny and Steve's house. We made it right on time; we thought we would be late since we lingered in Berkeley for so long, but as Aaron said, "I love it when things work out."

As we waited to hear from the Karen and James and Debbie and the kids, Steve took us out on their around the lovely lagoon in their backyard. It was so relaxing and peaceful looking at the homes and the water fowl. How cool is it to be able to boat up to your nearby pizza place??!! I want a boat! After our little tour, we got in the car to meet the rest of the family for dinner. It was a fun meal and a yummy fish dinner. Debbie's kids are so cute: Daniel shares everything on his mind and Mattias knows all about the World Cup since he wakes up at the crack of dawn to watch. Karen and James seemed in good spirits too. I was impressed by how much energy they all had considering they had all just gotten back from their Yosemite vaca. We went back to Sonny and Steve's to shmooze a little more before I had to pass out.

The next day, Aaron had a golf snafu (shocking!) so we waited a bit for him to get back before starting the day. In the end, getting to sleep in was awesome and we were really in no big rush to leave the house. We decided to go to Palo Alto and see the Stanford campus since neither of us had been there. I saw the swanky downtown area with Shaina and with Sonny, Debbie and the kids, we saw the campus and the Rodin gardens. Meaning: we saw the campus while looking for the Rodin Gardens. Sculptures are cool but there's not much to do once you've seen them. The boys entertained themselves with their soccer balls on the nearby lawn and we enjoyed a nice afternoon together.

After leaving Stanford, we headed to Sunnyvale to check out Debbie and Mauricio's house, a place I call the Alvarado Farm. Their backyard has been totally converted to an awesome gardening space: fruit trees galore and large vegetable boxes with all sorts of produce. I am so envious of that. The kids, of course, love to eat the fruits and veggies from the backyard. It's so cool to involve kids in that kind of project. I just need some help getting started, but I would love to do some planting in our backyard. Anyone wanna give me a hand??

We decided to make our way back home that afternoon and just stop somewhere for the night. I wanted to break up the trip to minimize car time and we got to keep the spontaneous adventure going.

As we drove, I checked hotels.com and hotwire from my phone. We settled on a 3 star place in Morro Bay. Why not?? It ended up being another pretty awesome Cali spot...

More on that in the next post...
