SF, Berkeley and the Peninsula

We started the day waking up leisurely at our SF hotel and made a plan to get brunch with Mark and Noa. We enjoyed the drive through the city and through memory lane of our past trips to San Francisco. It was great catching up with Mark and Noa, sharing pregnancy experiences and lamenting the difficulty in coming up with good names. I got my nails done for the first time during pregnancy because the salon featured a whole line of "baby safe" toxic-free nail polish. Score! (Aaron says: While Noa and P did their nails, Mark and I enjoyed some time on his roof/kibbutz chatting and enjoying beer. Very, very nice.)

The whole day spread before us to do with what we pleased. Aaron decided that we should check out Berkeley since he'd never been there before. So, we were off! Of course, our first stop was Telegraph Avenue. It hasn't lost any of its dirty charm with the street vendors, the cheap food and the street folks and their hand-made cardboard signs. We wandered onto campus and just as quickly wandered back. I left Aaron to wander through Moe's Books while I took a half hour to visit with Luan at her work nearby. Then, we headed over to North Berkeley where, according to Elena, "the grownups live". It was great seeing Elena and having her show us the gourmet ghetto of the area. (Aaron says: Yes, dirty. But made me feel at home as well. I did find a couple good books. And, it was great getting to spend more time talking with Elena.)

We didn't have a lot of time before we needed to head down to Foster City to meet up with the Hurst/Alvarado clan for dinner!
