En route to Babymoon 2010

It is truly shocking that the last post I wrote was from our honeymoon last summer! And here we are, nearly a year later, on the last road trip we will take before we become parents (God-willing). Wow! It really boggles the mind...

Anyway, the 'moon' so far has not disappointed.

Day 1 (or day .5):
Yesterday was pretty stressful since I had to go to work early and go through all of my grades and submit them. The grading the last month of the semester was pretty nonstop and grueling, and it felt good to finally say goodbye. But it was quite a process. From school, I booked it back to the 'hood to get a car wash. (We are taking my car on the trip, much to Aaron's chagrin, since it was recently serviced and doesn't make all sorts of weird noises like Aaron's Volvo. Clearly, it is far inferior road trip car based on the placement of the cup holders and the dash board offerings. I love my car so Aaron can just deal. Aaron says: Whoever made this car clearly had 'city car' in mind. Just b/c it is a hatch doesn't mean if it good for a road trip. I mean, the cup holder blocks the lighter thingy! And only two cup holders!?) Once it was clean enough to get dirty again on the road, I went home to shower for Meir and Laura's wedding and for Aaron to pack up the car.

I raced to the shower and Aaron headed to Radio Shack for the iPod radio cord. He had downloaded all sorts of cool podcasts for us to listen to on the road but we will be nowhere without the player thing which has somehow disappeared. How can we go anywhere without NPR favorites like This I Believe and This American Life??? (TAL did not disappoint!)

We are all ready to go to the wedding in a previously uncharted area of LA called Echo Park when Bill shows up with the new stove he got for us. Not only did the giant delivery truck block us in, but Bill wouldn't let us go until the new stove was installed and he showed us how to use it. That was a bit stressful because we were now running late....

But we hit the road as soon as we could and encountered the parking lot of LA freeways, the 10. We quickly aborted and using Sprint Navigation (it has saved me countless times!) we made our way to the awesome house in Echo Park for the wedding.

It was a lovely ceremony and reception. Low key, classy, delicious cupcakes, music and friends. Just the kind of wedding we want for our second wedding (to each other, of course. Aaron says: Huh?)

We decide to wait until the heavy traffic has moved on before hitting the road. It was a beautiful drive along the 101 and we were graced with a stunning sunset as well. We listened to the podcast and other driving music (Aaron says: Bluegrass!) until we arrived to our Grover Beach hotel around 10.

Along the way, I realized that certain key items had been left behind. Number one: our California guide book. It was one of those: I told you to pack it! I thought you were going to! But I remember asking you to do it last night! I had no idea where you put it! Finally, I had to just let that go and embrace the Aaron style of travel: no plans! (Aaron says: It was my way of saying.. let's just let the road be our guidebook.)

But when I couldn't remember packing my glasses somewhere around Santa Barbara is where I really started to panic. What a disaster! We went through the various scenarios of how I could get my glasses sent to me, all of which would inconvenience several people. Oy! How I hate packing at the last minute. Something or somethings always get forgotten! This story has a happy ending: my glasses were in fact in the suitcase between the bathing suit and the flip flops which I found the next morning. Yay! My pregnancy brain has not totally taken over! Hurray!

Anyway, we are off to enjoy the San Luis Obispo farmers market. More later on our awesome first day!
