What a day!

Yesterday was a pretty intense wedding related day with my mother and grandmother, made even more challenging by the fact that I hadn't gotten home from the airport until about 1:30 am. Our first appointment was at 10:15 am and needless to say, I was pretty tired.

Our first stop was to the invitations guy where my mom gets 25% off. He had two large books of sample invitations and most of them were too fancy and crazy expensive. It's wild how much printing stuff costs. My two favorites were the most simple and the cheapest but if you go to bar/bat mitzvah, they are even cheaper. That's what Bridal Bargains refers to as 'the Wedding Markup'. Still, in the end, we chose a heavy paper, a pretty ink color, a Hebrew font, a monogram, and I am pretty sure we got the English font too but I am having a few second thoughts. We have a while before we need to get the text to him which is good because we don't have the location or times set yet. During those two hours, I had to make a lot of decisions and I learned that I can be decisive sometimes. Well, about invitations, I guess. The wedding dresses are a whole other matter.

We drove straight to our next appointment, Donna K bridal in Tinley Park. When we first walked in, I didn't really think much of the place: racks of different colored bridesmaids dresses, a sea of white and ivory gowns, but the presentation wasn't so exciting. But then, it began. I don't have a clear idea of what to wear at my wedding. I never had the dream dress all picked out. This is a huge endeavor for me and I may be having doubts that the dress will choose me. It was hard! I tried on about ten dresses, all with different merits but it took a lot to choose the top two. The dress that my mother, grandmother and Donna all loved, I ended up deciding against cuz it was just too much on top. Everyone has a different opinion on what is flattering for me and it feels overwhelming because there are so many dresses out there!! I found one that is my current favorite of all the dresses I have tried on at this point. Fortunately, my friend, Elena the personal shopper agreed that it was a good choice (though she questioned me on some of the dresses I eliminated because of the train). The frightening thing is that I have two more dress appointments on Friday. Whoa!

I came home from that experience and just crashed. I had made plans to see Elena and Shaina that night and of course, the weather was nasty. Pouring rain, crazy gusts of wind and cold. We decided to go to her place in Hyde Park because it was central to me in the burbs and Shaina in Skokie. But I got so lost trying to find it, I almost cried. Nothing seemed to go right, it was getting later and later, Shaina and Beth were already there and I kept missing my exits (I don't know how because I was on the lookout) . Finally, I got there after a short detour through downtown but then have to drive around and around to find parking. And I was scared because there was a shooting in Hyde Park last week. I found parking a few blocks away and ran to her place. It was not easy because of the freezing wind pushing me back. But I made it and it was so great to catch up with Elena and Greg and see Shaina and Beth who I hadn't seen since Israel (see post: I survived vacation with Shaina and Beth). Sadly, it got late pretty quickly and then I had to drive home. But it made me very happy to see them and laugh with them.

Anyway, I am going to try to relax today and study some Talmud for our big test on Tuesday. It's snowing and I don't feel like moving at all. I'll upload some pics as soon as I can but I've been having trouble with that.

Happy Thanksgiving!
