Becoming a Bride

Photo 1: Is this for real?!
Photo 2: The ring!

In becoming a bride, I thought I would try to 'get back on the horse' and start writing about the experience. Thus far, it has been amazing! I love being engaged and blushing a little when I talk about the proposal story (you should hear it from him because he tells it better) or show off my ring. But the downside is that people bombard you with questions that you either don't know the answer to or just haven't thought of at all. According to Shawn's recommendation, the answer is always: I will bring that up with my fiance!

Anyway, step 1 and 2 are done: we are getting married June 15th in LA. Next, the wedding dress!! My mother told me that you know your wedding dress right away; it chooses you. I think she might actually be on to something there. In thinking about how I chose the engagement ring, it was very much like that. I saw it right away among a bunch of other nice rings and as soon as it was on, I didn't want to take it off. I am hoping my wedding dress will choose me...

To get the ball rolling, I went to David's Bridal in the OC with Nina who was in town for a family bar mitzvah on her boyfriend's side. She suggested the outing because she is much more active in this process than I, and I happily agreed. We had both heard David's horror stories so we were preparing for the worst. I have to say that my experience there was pleasant but the dress hasn't found me yet.
My saleslady, Juliet, greeted us after taking out a shiny tiara from the display case and affixing it to her head. We had a hard time keeping a straight face after witnessing this and I am pretty sure I chuckled outloud. Wouldn't it be so great if YOU could wear a tiara to work?? She was very sweet and helpful: getting me in and out of the gowns, helping me walk, dealing with the trains and the veils and being generally complimentary to me as I tried on dresses in various styles. Another perk of her job is shooing away renegade children who break free from their parents and run amok. A kid literally ran over to me and stomped on the train of the dress I was wearing. Then he jumped up and down a little while Juliet shooed him off. Quiet unbelievable! She also asked Nina repeatedly if she liked the bridesmaids dresses she tried on (she did not).

Thanks to digital photography and Nina's expertise, we narrowed down the options and added them to my wish list. Though they were nice, I can't yet say that the dress that is to be mine has found me. Still, I can always revisit my David's Bridal selections now that I am in the system.

More wedding tales coming up over Thanksgiving break as my mother, grandmother and I tackle: invitations!!
