Love/Hate

photo: snow!
Love/hate is actually too extreme...it's more like love/frustration. This is my relationship to Israel and what it is like to live here. I will continue to add examples of this phenomenon as they come up and as I think of them. I merely wanted to share one from yesterday.

Schechter is a small aging school housed in a converted apt building. We essentially have one space to use for group study or anything that involves raising your voice above a whisper. Yesterday, we lost that space to a program for synagogue presidents from America. Ok, understandable that they should come see and hear about the Schechter's successes, but a. we were given the boot b. we were not informed in advance to make other arrangements c. the library is not an option because you get yelled at when you are too loud. We had to sit in the cafeteria among people trying to eat lunch, carry on loud conversations etc. OY!

This is not such an extreme example, I realize, but I am introducing to topic for later stories as well.

I must say in closing however, that what is wonderful about being here is getting to share more meals with your deans.
