Happy Thanksgiving

Ah...Thanksgiving. What a wonderful holiday to celebrate...when you are in the proper place to celebrate it. I am not sure why, but I just feel completely immune to Thanksgiving fever. Still, I had a great time tonight at the T-day dinner organized by Hannah G and Nicole G that was held at Schechter. It was a nice way to get everyone together, dressed in nice clothes, and to introduce the Israelis and those foreigners in our midst to what we love about the holiday: the massive amounts of food. They did a great job pulling it off. It was so nice to eat pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes and sweet potato pie. There were a few renditions of God Bless America and If I Had a Hammer. I even got Nicole to make pumpkins and turkeys out of construction paper. Despite the revelry, I still feel disconnected and so far from America and what is going on there.

Thanksgiving only became really significant in recent years when it was the time that all the siblings ( or almost all) gathered at my parents house along with my maternal grandmother. It has become a tradition that my sister makes her vegetable stew and serves it in a hollowed out pumpkin. I have such a clear picture of her in my head presenting to us with a flourish. Only now, writing this, do I feel the nostalgia of what I am missing out on...

Whew! After a long day and fun dinner, I am ready to settle in to watch a few episodes of Scrubs. It is my new favorite pastime but unfortunately, one of my enabler sites got yanked by the MCAA for linking to a site that has illegally downloaded material. Whoa, now! There is nothing illegal about sitting down to some really great episodes of Scrubs from a couple years back. At least, I don't think there is...If I am wrong, I don't want to be right.

Anyway, enough of this rambling. Happy Thanksgiving to all! And just so it is out of the way, I am thankful for my family, my health, the people around me who are so caring and the love of my life.
